How to Choose Quality Silicone Kitchenware

What Is Silica Gel?

Silicone is a kind of inorganic polymer colloid material, the main component is silicon dioxide, its chemical molecular formula for mSiO2-nH2O, a simple understanding can be considered to be between synthetic rubber and synthetic plastics between a substance.

Our common silica gel: industrial grade silica gel, food grade silica gel, medical grade silica gel. Industrial-grade silicone catalyzed by organotin, there will be some pungent flavor, food-grade silicone, medical grade silicone does not have any flavor. The silicone cookware we use basically belongs to food grade silicone.

Is Silicone Cookware Safe?

Food-grade silica gel is insoluble in water and other solvents, non-toxic and tasteless, in addition to strong alkali, hydrofluoric acid does not react with any substances, chemical properties are extremely stable. The use of temperature -40 ℃ ~ 230 ℃ between the current international food-grade silica gel is not harmful to the human body reports, so far it is still very safe.

What Are The Advantages Of Silicone Kitchenware?

High safety: non-toxic and odorless, safe and healthy
Soft and does not hurt the pot: soft texture, not easy to deform.
Long service life: good stability, can be used for a long time.
Resistant to high and low temperatures: can be used between -40℃~230℃, can be used in the microwave or oven.
Good mold resistance: no moldy phenomenon even if it is placed for a long time.
Easy to clean: easy to clean, good care.

Types and manufacturing processes of spatula and ladle silicone kitchen utensils.

There are 8 general categories of common silicone kitchenware: spatulas, rice spatulas, soup ladles, funnel spoons, pasta fishers, food tongs, egg beaters, and oil brushes.

In addition, there are mats, bowls, gloves, etc.

How should one choose silicone kitchenware?

  • Smell: Food-grade silicone kitchenware should not have any odor when cold or hot. Sealed products might have a slight glue smell right after being opened due to the high-temperature oil pressure molding process used by manufacturers, but this should be undetectable after a day. If a strong, irritating smell persists for a long time, the product is likely of inferior quality.
  • Look: Products with bright, uniform, and well-saturated colors are preferable. Colors that are murky and uneven suggest problems with the manufacturer's mixing process.
  • Feel: The surface should feel good to the touch, smooth without any rough edges, with uniform hardness, and strong elasticity when stretched.
  • Rub: Rubbing it on white paper should not result in any color transfer.
  • Burn: (Damaging to the utensil) Regardless of color, silicone products should produce white smoke when burned, and the ash should be white and powdery. If black smoke and black or pink powder ash are produced, there is a problem.
